Founded in 2015, Stargazer is a manufacturer of American-made cast iron cookware based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Our highly acclaimed skillets are renowned for their smooth surface finish and modern, practical design, crafted for exceptional performance.

The Stargazer Story: Upholding Quality and Accountability

Stargazer Cast Iron was founded in 2015 by housewares designer Peter Huntley. Dissatisfied with the lack of quality and accountability in modern overseas manufacturing, Huntley set out to build a product and company that could be held to a higher standard. Convinced that people should have access to high-quality, well-designed cast iron at a reasonable price, he designed the first Stargazer skillet after six months, 21 designs, and several prototypes.

In the summer of 2015, Huntley began producing Stargazer's inaugural run of 250 skillets, hand-sanding the castings to a smooth finish, seasoning them in his home oven, and personally delivering each one to the local post office. Today, Stargazer continues to grow, guided by the principles that have defined the brand since its inception.

Cast iron cookware offers several distinct advantages. Unlike non-stick coatings, cast iron develops a natural, durable non-stick surface through seasoning. It also retains heat exceptionally well, making it ideal for searing and other high-heat cooking. Additionally, cast iron can be used on any cooking surface, from gas and electric to induction and open fire.

Perhaps most importantly, cast iron is incredibly durable, often lasting for generations and withstanding the test of time. Whether encountering seasoning loss or rust, cast iron cookware is virtually indestructible.

Crafted with Care: The Stargazer Process

Stargazer skillets begin their journey at our foundry, where domestically sourced, primarily recycled iron is melted at 2,800°F. The molten iron is refined, checked for purity, and poured into sand and clay molds through a "green sand" casting process. After cooling, the raw castings are sent to our machine shop, where they are individually machined to precise specifications.

The machined skillets then undergo a meticulous hand-finishing process in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Our craftsmen use a series of tools to grind and smooth any remaining burrs or artifacts, ensuring a consistently smooth, micro-textured cooking surface. This surface is then treated with our proprietary two-step finishing process, resulting in the signature Stargazer non-stick performance and durability.

Finally, each skillet is carefully packed in a box made just down the road from our factory, and shipped directly from our headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Stargazer cookware is built to last, with a lifetime warranty that covers manufacturer defects. Our skillets are 100% non-toxic, made from grey iron, and rigorously tested at multiple stages to ensure they are free from toxins and heavy metals.

The seasoning we use is a blend of non-GMO, soy-free, peanut-free, and gluten-free oils, making our cookware vegetarian and vegan-friendly. All of the oils used are certified kosher, though the mixing and application facility is not.
